A business with more than one employee carries out many activities that require the co-ordination of several staff members, which multiplies the chances for things to go wrong. Task case study - Ordering stationeryMany tasks appear very simple but are they? Let's consider checking the stationery stock and ordering new supplies as required. In order to do this task we need to know:
So there may be a MS Excel spreadsheet listing all items, the minimum stock and re-order quantities and the supplier. There needs to be instructions detailing other information. If ordering via the internet we need to know the URL, a username and password. We may need to have credit card details to pay on-line. If the person doing the task gets stuck at any point, they will waste time and maybe waste the time of others. Much time is spent searching for documents whereas a simple link can make it available instantly. This task could take 15 minutes with everything at hand (for example with BSB) but easily take an hour if important information is not readily available, even with 'experienced' staff. And this is just ordering stationery! It is not hard to understand why experts talk about it taking a year for a new employee to get up standard. However, much of this is due to poor information and systems. BSB provides a means of fixing this once and for all. Click here to return the BSB Products page. |
